Dr. LaCreta M. Clark’s educational philosophy
Educational leadership is fundamentally moral, transformational, and equity-centered work. Educational leaders must lead with courage, cultural responsiveness, ethical integrity, and a systems-thinking mindset to create inclusive learning communities where all students are valued, empowered, and able to thrive. Dr. LaCreta Clark's work bridges scholarship and practice through leadership preparation, community engagement, global perspectives, and a steadfast commitment to human dignity, justice, and transformational change — all undergirded by an unwavering faith in God and an enduring hope in humanity-as articulated in her most recent publication, Transformational Leadership in Turbulent Times. Dr. LaCreta M. Clark - Faculty Bulletin Profile
For more than 25 years, Dr. Clark's work in education has been shaped by service, scholarship, leadership, faith, and lived experience. As a Professor of Educational Leadership at Saginaw Valley State University, her research and professional practice focus on transformational leadership, diversity, equity and inclusion, ethical leadership, and preparing culturally responsive school and district leaders.
As the daughter of a social justice preacher and a teaching mother, she learned early that leadership is rooted in service, courage, advocacy, and human dignity. Her own educational experiences navigating predominantly white institutions further shaped her commitment to helping develop the kind of leaders she wished she had — leaders who are morally grounded, culturally responsive, and deeply committed to ensuring that all students are seen, valued, and empowered to thrive. Those experiences also reinforced the importance of representation and mentorship, particularly for graduate students preparing to lead in increasingly diverse educational communities.
Dr. Clark's work bridges theory and practice through research, leadership coaching, district partnerships, professional development, and graduate preparation programs designed to prepare leaders for increasingly complex educational environments. For more than twenty-five years, she has partnered with local and regional school districts to help educational leaders move beyond compliance-driven approaches toward transformational leadership that centers equity, belonging, and ethics in decision-making related to teaching, learning, and leading.
In addition to publishing and presenting scholarly work, she conducts professional development across the Great Lakes Bay Region and State, focused on diversity, equity and inclusion, rupturing implicit biases, and culturally responsive curriculum and leadership practices. For the past fifteen years, she has also led accreditation, assessment, and state approval efforts for SVSU’s M.Ed. Principalship and Post-Master Educational Specialist graduate degree programs, both designed to prepare future school and district leaders.
International experiences, including educational and cultural work in India, have deepened her understanding of global leadership, equity, and the transformative power of education across cultures and communities. These experiences reinforced her belief that leadership is ultimately about relationships, human dignity, and the moral responsibility to create educational systems where all students can flourish.
At the heart of Dr. Clark's work is an unwavering belief that educational leadership must be intellectually rigorous, equitably courageous, and morally grounded if we are to truly serve diverse students in an increasingly interconnected global society.
