The Testing Center at SVSU employs a Registered ServSafe Proctor who is authorized to provide the ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification Examination. The ServSafe exam can be taken online or via a paper booklet. For paper exams, it is the examinee’s responsibility to let the proctor know no less than two weeks before the test date to ensure that the proctor can get the test in time. In the case of online exams, the examinee must have their access code with them on test day. Questions regarding exam content or retakes should be directed to the National Restaurant Association, questions regarding testing policies or procedures should be directed to the Testing Center by emailing testing@svsu.edu or calling (989) 964-2820.

SafeServ Important Information

To register to take this exam:

  1. Testers should contact the National Restaurant Association, the owner of ServSafe Exams, to let them know they wish to take their online or paper/pencil exam at the Testing Center at SVSU.
  2. Testers must print off their exam registration number from ServSafe. Examinees must have this number to access their online exams.
  3. Register for the exam via RegisterBlast; choose ServSafe Examination from the options listed. For paper and pencil tests, choose a date that is no less than two weeks away to guarantee the proctor has time to get the test from ServSafe. If the tester is choosing to take a paper and pencil exam, they must let the proctor know at this time by calling the center at (989) 964-2820.
  4. Read the Testing Center’s rules before arriving to take the exam.
  5. Arrive at least 15 minutes before the scheduled time to complete registration. Testers should not expect to spend this time preparing to take their exams. All studying should be completed before entering the Testing Center.

If a student cannot come to a scheduled exam, they may reschedule and/or cancel their appointment in one of two ways:

  1. They can access RegisterBlast and follow the prompts provided on the right side of the screen. Note: If the test is scheduled for less than 24 hours from the time a tester is trying to reschedule, RegisterBlast will not allow this option.  Examinees should utilize the second option for rescheduling at this time.
  2. They can contact the Testing Center via email at testing@svsu.edu or phone at (989) 964-2820. If the Testing Center is closed, testers should leave their contact information, their reason for calling and a possible rescheduling date if applicable.

If payment has been made, the Testing Center will try to move the exam to another date so that the tester can avoid having to pay twice for the same exam.  If the tester has scheduled for an exam they no longer need, and payment has been made, they can request a refund using the following steps:

  1. The Testing Center at SVSU should be contacted no less than two hours before the scheduled exam period.
  2. A written request, either in email or letter form, for an exam refund must be submitted to the Center. The refund request must provide the student’s name, describe which exam they scheduled (time and day) and provide a phone number where they can be reached.

Refunds to the original credit/debit card used will be administered within five business days; processing fees from RegisterBlast cannot be refunded. Testers who do not contact the Center will be considered no shows and will not receive a refund. Examinees must contact ServSafe to discuss a refund for their test. The Testing Center can only refund the fees that it has collected. Examinees will not be allowed to leave the Testing Center with any exam materials or leave and come back at a later time/date to complete the test.
