Winter 2027 Orientation: January 6 & 7, 2027; Classes begin January 11, 2027

Welcome to SVSU!

Welcome to Saginaw Valley State University! We are excited to have you join us for our incoming class! All of our new students are required to attend orientation.

Orientation overview

Check list of activities

During orientation, students will complete the following tasks and activities:

Receive SVSU ID card
Submit official transcripts, if necessary
Take Basic Skills Placement tests, if necessary
Learn about campus resources, such as:
- Career Services
- Student Life Center
- Fitness Center
- Library
- Center for Academic Achievement
- Campus Police
Learn about important topics, such as:
- Visa regulations
- Academic policies
- Training (OPT, CPT) and on-campus employment
Purchase or rent textbooks from the bookstore
Pay semester bill

What to bring

For orientation check-in*, please bring the following documents:

Passport/Visa
I-94 (this is your arrival/departure record electronically issued by U.S. Customs and Border Protection)
- visit www.cbp.gov/I94 to get your most recent I-94 download
Official transcripts

*All documents collected by the Office of International Programs for imaging at check-in will be returned by the end of the orientation.
