A cover letter addresses the employer with your intentions of application for a position. Your cover letter should be brief, specific, and convey the message you are trying to deliver - that you want an opportunity to interview for the position.

handshake at interview

While a resume can get your "foot in the door," the interview is the most important element in the job search process. Through interviews, you and the employer have a chance to exchange information and participate in a discussion to determine whether you are a good fit for their organization and whether the organization is a good fit for you.

undecided about your major?

Starting college as an undecided student may be daunting. You may feel that you’re already behind on your four-year degree progress or you may be worried about fitting in on campus. You also may be unsure of how to explore the majors offered at your school and the career outcomes they lead to.

SVSU offers a FREE Strong Interest Inventory® assessment to help students identify their work personality by exploring their interests in six broad areas: realistic, artistic, investigative, social, enterprising, and conventional (often referred to using the acronym RIASEC).
