One Big Beautiful Bill Act: Frequently Asked Questions

On July 4, 2025, the President signed into law the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which includes significant changes to federal student loan programs. Saginaw Valley State University understands that students and families may have questions about how these changes could affect their financial aid and borrowing options.

Definitions

Disbursement
Financial aid funds that have been applied to a student's account.

New Borrower
A student who has not received a federal student loan disbursement prior to July 1, 2026.

Half-Time Enrollment
Undergraduate students enrolled in at least 6 credit hours during a semester. Different enrollment requirements may apply for graduate students.
