TESOL Certification

Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL): Certificate

Why study TESOL?

Teaching English as an additional language is a field in high demand around the world. TESOL certification is the recognized entry-level credential. If you like to travel, experience other cultures and work with others, TESOL certification is an excellent credential for being paid to do this. Any student is eligible to enroll in this 21-credit program, one that includes practice teaching.

It’s important to note that the TESOL certification is not a minor. However, anyone eligible to take the English minor may be able to include over 50% of the TESOL coursework toward that credential. A further option is available to students who are pre-service or in-service credentialed teachers. Such students have the option of ESL Minor Endorsement. See the program description in the SVSU online undergraduate catalog for details on both the TESOL certificate and the Minor Endorsement.
