Taste of Soul

As a proud annual tradition during Black History Month, Saginaw Valley State University invites the campus and community to celebrate African American culture through food at “A Taste of Soul.” Hosted by the Office of Diversity Programs in collaboration with The Marketplace at Doan, this special event brings together delicious recipes prepared by SVSU faculty and staff, local chefs, and culinary guests such as the Men of Bethel from Bethel A.M.E. Church in Saginaw.

Guests will enjoy a menu filled with soul food classics like catfish, black-eyed peas, macaroni and cheese, fried okra, peach cobbler, and sweet potato pie. “Food offers an opportunity to connect with friends and family,” said Dr. Mamie Thorns, associate vice president and chief diversity officer for diversity, equity, and inclusion. “We invite the community to join us in fellowship for a delicious meal.”

The public is welcome to attend. The cost is $12.25 per person, and SVSU students, faculty, and staff may use their meal cards. For more information, contact the Office of Diversity Programs at (989) 964-4068.
