SVSU student published for her research on injury, illness in marching band and color guard members

Saginaw Valley State University student Alissa Rhode, an athletic training major from Grosse Ile, recently learned that her determined research efforts will result in being published in a leading scholarly journal – a rare achievement for an undergraduate. Her article, “Injury and Illness in Marching Band and Color Guard Members and the Need for Athletic Trainers: A Critically Appraised Topic,” will appear in the Fall 2017 edition of the Journal of Sports Medicine and Allied Health Science.

SVSU announces 2017 Homecoming king, queen and court

Saginaw Valley State University students elected Mikaela Ashton, a senior management major from Grayling; and Mitchell Kennedy, a senior accounting major from Bad Axe, as the university's 2017 Homecoming queen and king. Ashton and Kennedy were crowned Saturday, Oct. 14 during the halftime festivities at SVSU's football game against Ferris State University.

SVSU students win ‘Battle,’ lift spirits for Saginaw homeless shelter's occupants, director

Saginaw Valley State University students continued their tradition of improving their surrounding community by raising $32,115 in the annual “Battle of the Valleys” fundraising competition. The funds will help the Mustard Seed Shelter double the occupancy of its Saginaw facility that moves women and children from homelessness to self-sufficiency.

SVSU and Pulse 3 Foundation hope to host 500 for CPR Blitz at Saturday’s football game

Saginaw Valley State University’s College of Health and Human Services, the Pulse 3 Foundation in Saginaw, and Blue Cross Blue Shield will partner to provide lifesaving training Saturday, Oct. 7. Using the slogan “500 in 5,” they hope to train 500 people how to perform hands-only CPR training the SVSU home football game that day.

Saginaw Valley State University saw its total enrollment decline for the 2017 fall semester, but the numbers also show encouraging trends in improved student retention and growth in the number of new graduate students.
