Substitute Teaching During Student Teaching - SVSU Policy

All students must apply to substitute teach through the company that services the district’s substitute teaching needs.

If the cooperating teacher and principal agree, after experiencing their cooperating teacher's classroom for two weeks, the student teacher may sub for their cooperating teacher only, regardless of the reason the cooperating teacher is out of the classroom. Students may sub a maximum of eight (8) days during their student teaching experience. Student teachers in Early Childhood (8 week) and Elementary (4 week) placements may only substitute in their host classroom and not within other classrooms in assigned schools.
