B.F.A Seminar Art Exhibition

March 3 - April 15, 2015
Saginaw Art Museum

featuring works by

Eric Birkle, Alison Bur,
Logan Mooney, Miles Nitz,
Myles Roznowski & Garrett Weslock

This exhibition features the works of fine art students from Saginaw Valley State University, specifically those that are currently enrolled in the Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) Seminar class.  The course acts as a capstone for all students in the major, and is required for graduation.  Included is a survey of the business of being a professional artist, health and safety concerns associated with art making, and discussions on exhibition, gallery, and studio design.  Additionally, the course covers museum-related topics such as art writing, grant writing, and legal and marketing considerations.

A major requirement of the class is for students to organize a local exhibition in which their own artwork is displayed.  While the Saginaw Art Museum is proud to sponsor the show, the students are responsible for its setup and advertisement as required by the assignment.  The resulting exhibition features a variety of media and showcases both two-dimensional and three-dimensional works of art.  Included are silkscreen prints by artist Myles Roznowski, photography by artists Alison Bur and Miles Nitz, vector graphics and digital illustration by Logan Mooney, and ceramic sculpture by artist Garrett Weslock.

Almost charismatically, controlled forms present in certain works interact with their free-flowing counterparts in others, while brightly colored compositions complement those in simple, yet striking black and white.  Certainly, the way in which each of these artists approaches their work is tremendously unique, thus the exhibition achieves it unity through the universal realization of individual expression.

Eric Birkle is employed as lead docent by the Saginaw Art Museum.  He secured the venue, and provided didactic labels for the exhibition.  Photos were taken by Alison Bur.  We are very grateful for the Saginaw Art Museum for allowing this exhibition.
