The art department is looking for volunteers to serve as mentors to new freshman art department majors during the upcoming fall semester. If you will have a junior or senior class standing for the upcoming fall semester, and are interested in serving as a mentor, please contact Emily Kelley (email@example.com) or Hideki Kihata ( firstname.lastname@example.org) to have your name added to our list of volunteers.
Mentors main task would be to help their freshman mentee acclimate to the SVSU campus and become better acquainted with the department. There will be a couple of organized events for mentors and mentees during the fall semester, but we will also encourage you to meet with your mentee on an individual basis.
The Writing Center not only offers students support with their writing in their classes, but actively strives to create opportunities for students to showcase their writing abilities. This contest is co-sponsored by the Art Department and the Writing Center every fall and winter semester. Students are invited to submit four to five samples of their work, along with an artist statement. Winners are given a $100 cash prize, and their work is displayed in the Writing Center. Learn more.
