Tanika Williams

April 2025

Tanika Williams

Get to know Tanika Williams, the 2025 Alumni Board Vice President, a little better. Tanika graduated from SVSU in 2006 with a degree in Criminal Justice and Sociology. She works at SVSU as the Graduate Admissions Coordinator. We asked Tanika some questions about SVSU, and here is what he had to say,

Why did you want to join the SVSU Alumni Board?

I wanted to join the SVSU Alumni Board in order to represent my alma mater in a professional manner. As well, I wanted to be a part of a group who is passionate about SVSU and who strives to keep alumni and future alumni connected to the university.

What was your favorite part about SVSU while you were a student?

My favorite part about SVSU was the events available to students. It seemed like we ALWAYS had something to do on campus... that is how I was able to befriend other students, which has led to some lifelong connections.

3 words would you use to describe SVSU

Welcoming, opportunities, home.

What piece of advice would you give to current SVSU students?

My piece of advice is to ALWAYS connect with professors. Be sure to introduce yourself (face to face) and ask questions as much as possible. Building that connection can not only help you as a student, but will also make it so that you are not just a number. I did this in undergrad and I still keep in touch with my professor... 24 years later!

How did SVSU inspire you?

SVSU inspired me to be the best I can be in my field of study. And to never stop learning and adding on to my education.

How has your experience at SVSU helped you set an example for others in your field?

As a student I always was sure to do my own research and check credibility of data before applying it to my assignments. This has been beneficial in my career over the years, and I have been able to share those tips with others.

What is something fun that you do in your leisure time?

Run my photography business, SNAPT Photography!

What is your favorite book or movie genre?

Horror & Drama/Psychological Thrillers

If you could see anyone in concert (dead or alive) who would it be?

Prince & Michael Jackson

If you could only eat one food the rest of your life, what would it be?

Seafood

We know that you do amazing things, both personally and professionally, and we want to hear all about it. Whether you've landed your dream job, started your own business, or made a difference in your community, we want to celebrate your accomplishments and share your story with the world. We can't wait to hear from you!
