Kiersten Mead

2024 Distinguished Alum for College of Health & Human Services

Kiersten Mead is currently the Director of Inpatient Practices at Covenant HealthCare. She has worked at Covenant HealthCare for the last 8 years, hiring in as a scribe in the Emergency Department after taking SVSU’s medical scribe course in 2016. After quickly being promoted to the role of Lead Scribe, Mead gained an appreciation for healthcare administration and decided to alter her original plans of pursuing medicine in favor of a degree that would serve her as an administrator.

Mead continued to work at Covenant throughout undergrad and was offered the role of Coordinator for the ER Physicians in March of 2020, and eventually Manager for ER and Urgent Care Providers in 2022. She is a “Double Cardinal”, completing her Bachelor of Exercise Science in 2018 and her Master of Business Administration in 2021. Finally, just this year, Mead accepted the role of Director of Inpatient Practices, where she now oversees providers for various areas, including ER, Hospital Medicine, Critical Care, Pediatric ICU, Pulmonology, Surgical Specialists, Med Express, and the Sleep Center.

For the last two years, prior to taking this new role, Mead also served as an adjunct faculty member at SVSU. She taught the medical scribe course that she herself had taken just years prior. She attributes so many of her career opportunities to Covenant’s scribe program, and she was honored to be able to teach that course and give students first-hand experience in the Emergency Department. Having scribes that she’s trained come back to Covenant as medical students, residents, attending physicians, nurses, advanced practice providers, and administrators has been incredibly fulfilling and only further enforces just how special this partnership with SVSU is.

Mead is a Saginaw native. She currently resides in Shields, in the community that she grew up in, with her golden retriever, Lyla.
