Syllabus and Assignment AI Policies and Language

The Writing Center encourages instructors to share their expectations regarding students’ use of AI tools in their syllabus, as well as - where needed - for individual assignments. Clearly communicating expectations helps to promote academic integrity, to prevent plagiarism, and to prevent confusion about course/instructor AI policies.

Possible approaches to AI in your syllabi and assignments include:

1. AI allowed with documentation and citation,
2. AI allowed in certain circumstances, and
3. AI not allowed unless otherwise specified by the instructor.

Having a clear policy regarding AI use helps the Writing Center Tutors to most effectively assist students.
