SVSU Medical Laboratory Science Program Active Affiliates

Updated June 2026
Published June 2026

Purpose of Affiliate List

A current list of active clinical/applied learning affiliates for the Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU) Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) program must be available to currently enrolled and prospective students, as well as members of the community, region, state, and beyond, as required by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS).

The Program Director or a designee updates the list annually, unless changes to an affiliate would affect an affiliation agreement or this list, in which case every effort will be made to upload an updated version to the program website as soon as possible.

Students and prospective students interested in conducting clinical fieldwork at a site not on this list should contact the Program Director (contact information, above) at least one year in advance to plan for securing a student position and finalize an agreement.

Definitions

Clinical/Applied Learning Affiliate: A clinical/applied learning affiliate is a site where students complete supervised clinical or applied learning experiences that are part of the accredited educational program. In some cases, the affiliate may also serve as a location where students access instructional activities or broadcast materials provided by the sponsoring institution or program partner. While an affiliate may issue documentation or a certificate acknowledging completion of the clinical/applied learning experience, it does not confer the academic degree or program completion certificate awarded by the sponsoring institution.

Active Affiliate: A clinical/applied learning site that provides opportunities for learning experiences the sponsoring institution or program partner is unable to provide. An affiliate is considered active when students from the sponsoring program are actively engaged in supervised clinical/applied learning at the site.

Affiliation Agreement: A document between the sponsor and the affiliate articulating the roles and responsibilities between all
parties.

Clinical Fieldwork Procedures and Policies

Fieldwork procedures and policies can be found in the Clinical Practicum Preceptor Manual and the Clinical Practicum Student Manual. These manuals, which are reviewed and distributed by the Program Director to students and affiliates prior to clinical placement, explain pre-fieldwork preparation policies and procedures (such as affiliate lab tours, student preference, director placement) and fieldwork policies (including as professional policies and fieldwork grading policies).
