Saginaw Valley State University alumna, Deborah Hakes, began her career as a communication leader at The Carter Center, where she worked to tell stories and raise awareness of international programming. "Steps Toward Democracy: Photographs by Deborah Hakes" documents former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and his wife, Rosalynn, as they visited post-conflict countries holding their first democratic elections.
