At SVSU, every student’s path can take unexpected turns, and Nathan’s story is a shining example of that. Initially drawn to physical therapy, Nathan found his true passion in the history department after attending a captivating history class. This pivot led him to enrich his educational experience at SVSU in ways he never anticipated.

Among his favorite courses were African American history with Dr. Jolly and Vietnam history with Dr. Baesler. These classes broadened his perspective and ignited a desire to understand the complexities of the world around him. Beyond academics, Nathan found a sense of belonging in the TKE fraternity, where he held various leadership roles, including homecoming chair and the Histor (history chair). His college experience was further enriched by playing on an intramural football team alongside SVSU staff, including President Gilbertson. These connections fostered relationships that extended beyond the classroom, highlighting the community spirit at SVSU.

After completing graduate school in 2020, Nathan began volunteering at the Frankenmuth Historical Museum. His dedication and passion shone through, leading to a full-time position as the Education, Events & Exhibits Director within just two months. Over three years, he honed his skills and was eventually promoted to Curator & Collections Manager. Earlier this year, Nathan stepped into the role of Director of the Frankenmuth Historical Museum.

Nathan's impact on the museum has been substantial. He spearheaded a two-year renovation project, ensuring that the space is not only educational but also engaging for visitors. His favorite features, like the mural and interactive TV, facilitate a fun and hands-on learning environment. Nathan’s vision is clear: to create a welcoming space where community members can learn, recharge, and connect.

Nathan’s journey from a curious student at SVSU to a community leader at the Frankenmuth Historical Museum exemplifies how education can ignite passion and purpose. His commitment to enhancing the museum experience reflects his deep-rooted desire to give back to the community, making history accessible and engaging for everyone. SVSU is proud to celebrate alumni like Nathan, who embody the spirit of lifelong learning and community service.
