Marcia Thomas

2025 Distinguished Alum for Scott L. Carmona College of Business

 

Marcia Thomas is Chief Diversity Officer and Global HR Business Partner for Corporate where she made history as the company’s first Chief Diversity Officer and leads Inclusion, Equity, and Belonging initiatives for a global workforce of 13,000 across 20+ countries.


With over 35 years of experience in Human Resources and Talent spanning manufacturing, higher education, and civic engagement, Thomas has built a distinguished career advancing organizational excellence and inclusion. Under her leadership, Aptar has been recognized by Forbes as a Best Workplace for Women for three consecutive years. Most recently, she was also honored by The Conference Board for her outstanding contributions to global DEI advancement.


Thomas’s leadership journey took her to Saginaw Valley State University, where she not only earned her degree but also left a meaningful legacy as Director of Multicultural Services, Alumni Board Member, and Diversity Council Participant.


Deeply rooted in community service, Thomas is an active and influential leader in the Saginaw region. She has served on the boards of the Underground Railroad and Saginaw Historical Society and most recently as the immediate past Chair of the Delta College Board of Trustees. She is a GOLD Life Member and Treasurer of the Saginaw Branch NAACP, President of the Saginaw Chapter of Silhouettes, Inc. (Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.), and a former member of Tri-City Links.


A proud Lifetime Member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Thomas has held numerous leadership roles within the Eta Upsilon Omega Chapter, including President and Vice President. She currently serves as Treasurer, Protocol Chairman, and Education Advancement Foundation Captain. On a regional level, she is the Chairman of the Great Lakes Podcast, Between the Lakes, and previously served as Michigan Cluster Coordinator.


Thomas finds her greatest joy in family. Originally from Youngstown, OH, she and her husband, Darryl, have two daughters, Erica and Lauren, and welcomed son-in-law Jamar Hardy. She is embracing her newest and most cherished role as "Nonni" to grandson Jaden Lee Hardy.
