Get to know Maddison Godi-Whittaker, the chair of the Present Alumni committee on the Alumni Relations Board of Directors. Maddison graduated from SVSU in 2022 and currently owns her own business, MaddMarketing Solutions.
Why did you want to join the SVSU Alumni Board?
I want to make a difference and stay involved on campus. Although I dreamed of going to SVSU, I transferred to SVSU from Delta College in 2020. Seeing the campus now, it is an entirely different experience than what I had during my time at SVSU.
What was your favorite part about SVSU while you were a student?
It felt like home. I was able to connect well with teachers and fellow students, and these relationships helped me start and grow my business.
What 3 words would you use to describe SVSU.
Community, Inviting, Dedicated
What piece of advice would you give to current SVSU students?
Grow your network. If you are willing to show up and forge relationships, your degree will mean more than just showing up and taking tests. Learn from your peers, and surround yourself with people driven to do more.
How did SVSU inspire you?
The Doe Entrepreneur Institute changed my life. I would not be where I am today without the guidance of Director Adel and Professor Mellema.
How has your experience at SVSU helped you set an example for others in your field?
I am constantly coming back to campus and taking meetings with students at SVSU. I will not gate keep information. If you are willing to reach out, I will spend the time with students polishing their resumes, building their LinkedIn and helping them find internships and jobs through my network.
What are you most proud of?
My ambition and motivation. Despite all the challenges thrown my way, I continue to overcome them.
What is something fun that you do in your leisure time?
I spend time with my husband, family and friends. My husband and I enjoy spending time at the local YMCA, supporting local businesses and hanging out with our pet ferret Olli.
What is your favorite book or movie genre?
My favorite genre of book is fantasy and my favorite movie genre is also fantasy. In my free time, my brain needs a break.
If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Skinny Pop Popcorn
