Dr. JoLynne Grant is a leader in veterinary medicine and education, whose compassion, innovation, and dedication have transformed emergency pet care in mid-Michigan. In 1999, she founded Great Lakes Pet Emergencies, addressing a critical gap in regional veterinary care at a time when the nearest emergency hospitals were in Lansing and Detroit. Under her leadership, the practice has become a trusted lifeline for pet owners across the region.
Dr. Grant is among the few veterinarians in Michigan board-certified through the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners in both Canine and Feline Medicine, a distinction that underscores her exceptional expertise and commitment to excellence. Known for her unwavering dedication, she ensures that every person and their pet receives compassionate, high-quality care no matter the hour, day, or holiday. Her team describes her as having “a heart of gold,” recognizing not only her medical skill but her deep empathy for the people she serves.
Throughout her career, Dr. Grant has been a strong advocate for inclusion and diversity within the veterinary profession, fostering a welcoming and supportive environment for both clients and colleagues. Her commitment to education is equally profound. She remains closely connected to Saginaw Valley State University, where she regularly returns to campus to lead the Health Professions Association’s suture clinic, teaching aspiring healthcare professionals essential skills and sharing her passion for medicine.
This past spring, Dr. Grant hosted pre-veterinary students at her clinic, providing hands-on experiences in pet examination, radiology, lab sampling, and diagnostics. She has employed and mentored countless SVSU students and continues to serve as a trusted advisor long after graduation. Recognizing the challenges students face, she intentionally offers paid clinical positions, allowing them to gain invaluable experience while supporting themselves financially.
Beyond her practice and mentorship, Dr. Grant extends her compassion throughout the community. She provides discounted care and charitable support to local pet rescues and Humane Societies, and on occasion, and even provides emergent medical care for local police dogs.
