Chief Science Officers

What’s better than experiencing a STEM opportunity? Bringing it to your peers and changing your community! Be the voice of STEM in your school by becoming a Chief Science Officer. As a CSO, you will attend a Leadership Training Institute to increase your networking, verbal and written communication, and team building skills. CSOs also participate in cabinet meetings throughout the year and implement a STEM action plan to impact their school or community.

Program Timeline

Spring: School registration / CSO election

August: Leadership Training at SVSU

October: Cabinet Meeting at a local STEM Business

October - April: STEM Action Plan Implementation

March: Cabinet Meeting at a local STEM Business

May: CSO Celebration

             

SMEK Senior

Building mini golf courses, engineering bubble wands, solar-roasted smores, LEGO robots...what’s not to like!? This 3-day camp allows 5th-8th grade students to explore science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics through hands-on activities!

SMEKplus Senior Dates: July 21 - 23, 2026

Program Cost: $175.00

 

SVSU STEM Socials

SVSU STEM Socials events allow teens and STEM professionals to engage in meaningful conversations and explore advances in science and technology. These events are open to any student in 6th - 12th grade in the Great Lakes Bay Region (Arenac, Bay, Clare, Gladwin, Gratiot, Isabella, Midland, Saginaw counties), as well as Huron and Tuscola counties.

SVSU STEM Socials are always Free, Fun, and have Food!
