Community Outreach

Service through Music Education!

Excellent professors. Talented college students. Regional high school students and their teachers looking for ways to enhance their love of music. Why not create opportunities to bring the two together? That is why the Department of Music at SVSU offers several outreach opportunities to area schools and high school students.

Clinics

As part of the Department of Music's outreach, it offers select clinics. We have several annual events including Concert Band Pre-Festival, SVSU Band Day, Clarinet Day, Percussion Day, among others. More information will be posted as it is available.

  • The Choral Clinic
  • The Jazz Clinic
  • The Day of Percussion
  • Clarinet Day
  • Concert Band Pre-Festival
  • SVSU Band Day

These opportunities are geared towards high school students and ensembles.

Valley Steel

Valley Steel is a steel band that formed in 2013 through a generous donation by the Joseph and Karen Krantz Family Charitable Trust. The steel band is a registered student organization (RSO). The fee per semester is $75 and more information is available through Dr. Brandon Haskett. The group performed at the Great Lakes Steelpan Festival in Crystal Lake, Illinois in 2014, shared the stage with St. Louis High School in a joint concert, and played in several mass steel band events at St. Louis High School as part of the Pan Rocks project..

Please contact Dr. Brandon Haskett for more information.
