Description

Faculty earning this badge have completed the Online/Hybrid Facilitator Certification course (also called the Facilitator’s Course) offered by the Center of Excellence in Teaching and Learning at Saginaw Valley State University. Offered via the Canvas learning management system, the course requires faculty to design work in Canvas. However, the course emphasizes excellent online course facilitation, rather than proficiency with specific online teaching technologies. The earner has demonstrated the knowledge and skills necessary to facilitate courses that have previously been designed and populated with content.

Course Objectives
Upon completion of the course, faculty will be able to:

  1. Facilitate effective learning activities to ensure equitable access for diverse students.
  2. Describe how assessments are aligned with student learning outcomes, and provide effective feedback.
  3. Recommend available academic support services and resources that are appropriate for their students.
  4. Effectively communicate in their course by using opportunities and tools in Canvas for meaningful interaction among students, and between students and faculty.

Content Created And Reflections

By the end of the course, the learner has create the following items in the learning management system (Canvas) for their own online/hybrid course:

  1. Welcome announcement that welcomes students, introduces the instructor, provides a course description, and tells students how to begin the course.
  2. A demonstration of effective feedback to a simulated student submission to an assignment.
  3. A Welcome page and a module with the Welcome page in it.

They will also have participated in assignments and discussions in which they reflect on:

  1. student support resources available at SVSU
  2. course alignment
  3. characteristics of formative assessment
  4. information in the course that will influence their interactions with students.
