What time period you plan to study abroad will determine the optimal time for you to apply for study abroad scholarships at SVSU.
Please reference the following table to find out the optimum time to apply* based on planned type of program and semester of study.
*Please note that some scholarships have closing dates outside of deadlines presented in this table. The closing date listed on the SVSU Scholarship Database overrides any dates on this page.

Popular SVSU scholarships for students planning to study abroad
There are several private SVSU scholarships for students who are planning to study abroad.
The table below summarizes some of the most important information for study abroad applicants, but each scholarship has more information and requirements. For the most comprehensive and current information, please visit the SVSU Scholarship Database and search using the title of the scholarship or the term "study abroad."
In addition to these scholarships, students should also search for scholarships within their field(s) of study or interest that they may be able to apply for and use toward funding their study abroad program.

- have at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA in history courses
- be a Junior or Senior at SVSU
- be a History, History Education or Social Studies Education major
- be first-generation college student
The award can only be used for
- History, History Education or Social Studies Education study abroad programs

International Study Abroad Endowed Scholarship |
Applicant must:
- have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0
- be studying abroad for at least one semester
- demonstrate financial need
Preferences given for:
- studying in a non-English speaking country
- international studies and foreign language majors/minors
The award CANNOT be used for
- partnership exchange programs
- non-credit bearing study abroad programs

Study Abroad Experience Scholarship |
Applicant must:
- have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5
- demonstrate financial need
Preferences given:
- for students who have never studied abroad before
- for students who are studying abroad for at least one semester
The award CANNOT be used:
- to exceed the total program cost
- for partnership exchange programs
- for non-credit bearing study abroad programs

SVSU Korean Study Abroad Scholarships |
Applicant must:
- be studying abroad in S. Korea for at least one semester
- an exception to this is participation in Kyung Hee University's summer program
The award CANNOT be used for:
- study abroad programs outside of S. Korea

Student Association Study Abroad Endowed Scholarship |
Applicant must:
- have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.75
- have been a student at SVSU for at least one academic year
- submit two letters of recommendation (one must be from a member of SVSU faculty)
- have documented 10 hours of community service
- submit a travel budget or list of expenses from the Study Abroad office
