What time period you plan to study abroad will determine the optimal time for you to apply for study abroad scholarships at SVSU. Please refer to the table below.
*Please note that some scholarships have closing dates outside of deadlines presented in this table. The closing date listed on the SVSU Scholarship Database overrides any dates on this page.

Popular SVSU scholarships for students planning to study abroad
Students planning to study abroad can apply for several private SVSU scholarships. The table below highlights key details, but each scholarship has additional requirements.

Applicant must:
- Be U.S. citizens or permanent residents
- Have achieved minimum sophomore standing (31 credits or more)
- Have a minimum 3.0 GPA
- Not have participated in a study abroad program before
The award CANNOT be used for
- Non-credit bearing study abroad programs
- A fellowship that pays for all or most of your travel expenses

- Be studying abroad in an East Asian destination
- Be enrolled at least half-time in a degree program
- Maintain satisfactory academic progress
- Meet with a member of the International Programs staff and developed a clearly defined plan
Preferences given to:
- Students with an interest in economics

Applicant must:
- Have at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA in history courses
- Be a Junior or Senior at SVSU
- Be a History, History Education or Social Studies Education major
- Be first-generation college student

- History, History Education or Social Studies Education study abroad programs

- Have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0
- Be studying abroad for at least one semester
- Demonstrate financial need
Preferences given for:
- Studying in a non-English speaking country
- International studies and foreign language majors/minors
The award CANNOT be used for
- Non-credit bearing study abroad programs

Applicant must:
- Have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5
- Demonstrate financial need
Preferences given:
- For students who have never studied abroad before
- For students who are studying abroad for at least one semester
The award CANNOT be used:
- To exceed the total program cost
- For non-credit bearing study abroad programs

Applicant must:
- Be studying abroad in S. Korea for at least one semester or be committed to participate in a faculty-led study abroad trip to Korea
- An exception to this is participation in Kyung Hee University's summer program
The award CANNOT be used for:
- Study abroad programs outside of S. Korea

Applicant must:
- Have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.50
- Have been a student at SVSU for at least one academic year full-time
- Plan on studying abroad within the next four semesters (Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter)

| Judy Zehnder Keller Bavarian Inn Fellowship for Study Abroad in Germany |
This fellowship is available to students, faculty and staff who wish to pursue a study abroad, research, or exchange experience
Applicant must:
- Study at the University of Wurzburg or University of Hochschule Ansbach, or in the Frankenmuth German sister city of Guzenhausen or the Bay City German sister city of Ansbach.
- Be enrolled at least half-time and maintain good academic standing
- Submit a final report at the conclusion of their experience and be available to participate in a Frankenmuth and/or SVSU community events

- Partnership Exchange Programs are now charged SVSU Block Tuition
- But receive up to $2,400, applied after other institutional aid (not including: State and federal aid or other study abroad scholarships)
- Can not be given as a part of a refund
- Brings program fees to an estimated $4,700
