This grant will provide faculty with the opportunity to mentor undergraduate students in effective research strategies while continuing their own research. Funds are available for the following:
Student salary per semester during the academic year and during the Spring and Summer terms should be listed. Student salary may be rolled forward to the next semester during the grant period.
Supplies of up to $1,500 to conduct research that extends the faculty member's work. Supplies should be necessary to increase the capacity of the existing project to include students, not fund the research project. Research funding cannot be used to purchase laptops. Such funding would need to go through the department or Dean. For any software purchases, faculty must follow the operations manual VI C, ITSS policy 5.2-1. Faculty who mentor students during the Spring/Summer terms may request a $1,000 supplemental pay (inclusive of applicable wages & benefits) stipend. Faculty are limited to one stipend per Spring/Summer term, even if multiple applications are submitted.
The total requested project budget cannot exceed $5,000.
Eligibility: Full-time faculty members on continuing appointments.
Endowed Professors are ineligible to apply.
Faculty who have been awarded three faculty-led grants in the last five years are ineligible unless they have applied for external funding through Sponsored Programs.
Winter 2026 only: Awards are $5,000 per application. Award amounts are based on available funding at the time of application and may vary each year.
Phase 1: July 15, 2026 - March 15, 2027
Phase 2: September 1, 2026-January 15, 2027
