About Carmen

Carmen Stricker joined the SVSU community in August 2011 as an Assistant Director of Admissions. In that role, she was responsible for student recruitment, community outreach, academic advising, coordinating large on-campus recruitment events, and supporting numerous campus initiatives. In November 2021, she became the Director of SVSU's Martin Luther King, Jr. – Dolores Huerta – Morris Hood Jr. – Rosa Parks Initiative 4S Program.

A proud SVSU alumna, Carmen earned a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice, a Teacher Certification in English, and a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership and Administration. She is currently a doctoral candidate in Educational Leadership at Central Michigan University.

Beyond her work at SVSU, Carmen is actively involved throughout the Great Lakes Bay Region. She is a graduate of Leadership Saginaw County and the Great Lakes Bay Hispanic Leadership Institute and is a member of the American G.I. Forum Women's Chapter. She has served on numerous community boards, including the Saginaw Public Library Board, Somos Hispanos Advisory Board, Bridge Center for Racial Harmony Board, and the Great Lakes Bay Hispanic Leadership Institute Board.

Carmen's contributions have been recognized through several honors, including the Guadalupe Gomez Community Service & Leadership Award (2011), SVSU Staff Member of the Month (June 2017), and recognition as one of the Top 50 Latinas of Michigan (2018).

Carmen is passionate about helping students achieve their academic, personal, and professional goals. She is committed to mentoring students, supporting their educational journey, understanding their aspirations and challenges, and empowering them to become confident, lifelong learners and engaged contributors to their communities.
