The Martin Luther King, Jr. – Dolores Huerta – Morris Hood Jr. – Rosa Parks Initiative is a State of Michigan program designed to increase opportunities for academically and economically disadvantaged students to earn college degrees and achieve career success as active participants in today's knowledge-based global economy. By promoting systemic change within higher education, the initiative helps institutions implement successful strategies that benefit all students.

Saginaw Valley State University is proud to participate in the initiative by providing academic support, mentoring, and resources that help first-generation students and those with unique academic or economic circumstances succeed. Through this commitment, hundreds of students have benefited from individualized support, contributing to strong student retention and success.

The Martin Luther King, Jr. – Dolores Huerta – Morris Hood Jr. – Rosa Parks Initiative 4S Program is designed to educate, encourage, and empower students to achieve their academic and career goals. Through effective instruction, advising, tutoring, mentoring, and student support services, the program fosters student persistence and increases graduation rates. Saginaw Valley State University is committed to providing the resources and opportunities students need to thrive throughout their educational journey.
