The Fast Track to Your Teaching Career

Do you already have a bachelor’s degree in another discipline, but you have always wanted to teach? SVSU offers an innovative one year teacher certification program!

With Saginaw Valley State University's Accelerated Certification with Residency (ACR) program, you can become a professionally-certified teacher in just three semesters (online and hybrid courses). This Michigan Department of Education approved program also includes a one year paid residency, in a school-setting, along with support provided by a master teacher mentor, a University Supervisor, and University professors.

"The professors - the whole experience in the program - was incredible!" - LYNN SKINNER, Ph.D., 7TH GRADE TEACHER

To become an Accelerated Certification with Residency teacher candidate, applicants must possess a bachelor's degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution, have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, and fulfill all requirements for admission to SVSU and the ACR program.

To learn more, contact the College of Education or complete a request for information.

To gain admission to the program, applicants must:

  • attend a Teacher Certification Seminar (see below);
  • fulfill the requirements for admission to SVSU and the ACR program;
  • satisfy content area testing required by the Michigan Department of Education for teacher certification;
  • complete an interview.

These steps must be completed by June 14th each year to start the program the following summer semester.
