Post-Baccalaureate Teacher Education Program

SVSU offers a traditional and accelerated route to teacher certification in elementary and secondary education for individuals who already have a bachelor's degree or higher and want to obtain their standard teaching certificate to teach in Michigan. Admission to these programs is coordinated through the Office of Admissions & Certification in the College of Education.

If you are considering a career in teaching, we ask that you first attend a Teacher Certification Information Session to learn about our traditional and accelerated certification programs at SVSU and the requirements to become a certified teacher in Michigan. Discussion at the information session will also touch on high demand positions within education and what the next steps are to begin your teacher preparation program at SVSU.

The next virtual ACR Information Sessions via Zoom are scheduled for:

  • Tuesday, November 10, 5:30 p.m.
  • Thursday, December 10, 5:30 p.m.
We ask that you RSVP at to confirm your attendance. Please be sure to include a phone number where you can be reached during the day in the email. Your phone number is needed for notification in case the session is canceled due to illness or inclement weather. An email confirming your reservation and instructions on how to connect to the information session will be sent to those who RSVP one day prior to each information session.
