PURPOSE

These monthly, one-hour Title IX meetings bring together university staff, faculty, and student representatives to ensure aligned communication and coordination across campus operations related to Title IX.

This committee plays a vital role in ensuring the university remains compliant with federal Title IX requirements and fosters a safe, equitable campus community for students, faculty, and staff alike.

KEY OBJECTIVES

• Share campus-wide updates and announcements
• Provide an opportunity for attendees to ask questions and raise concerns
• Strengthen Title IX collaboration between faculty, staff, and students
• Provide input on prevention programs, outreach, training needs, and accessible campus communication.

PARTICIPANTS

Title IX liaisons, department chairs, HR representatives, and designated staff from each college/division, along with student representatives who provide a student perspective on campus climate and help relay updates back to their peer groups.

Advisory Council Responsibilities

Committee members are expected to:

• Regular attendance is expected to support consistent communication and representation across participating colleges, divisions, departments, and student’s constituencies.
• Share approved Title IX updates, resources, and training information with their respective areas.
• Bring forward questions, emerging concerns, communication needs, and campus climate observations from their areas.
• Provide constructive feedback on proposed policies, procedures, training, prevention, outreach and communication efforts.
• Help identify opportunities to improve awareness of Title IX resources and reporting options.
• Refer questions, reports, or disclosures to the Title IX Coordinator or other appropriate university office rather than attempting to investigate, resolve, or advise on individual matters.
• Respect privacy and handle sensitive information in accordance with university policy and applicable legal obligations
• Notify the Title IX Coordinator of any actual or potential conflict of interest related to committee work.

MEETING FORMAT

Most meetings will be held via Microsoft Teams or otherwise notified about a change in schedule. The scheduled meetings for the 26-27 academic year are:

• January 27, 2027. 2:00 – 3:00 pm
• February 24, 2027, 2:00 – 3:00 pm
• March 24, 2027, 2:00 – 3:00 pm
• April 21, 2027, 2:00 – 3:00 pm
• May 12, 2027, 2:00 – 3:00 pm

WHY A TITLE IX ADVISORY COUNCIL MATTERS

1. It elevates Title IX as an institutional priority. Advisory members help ensure that Title IX isn’t seen as “just the coordinator’s job.” They create shared ownership across departments, which increases visibility and signals that equity, safety, and compliance are campus-wide responsibilities.
2. It improves communication and transparency. A committee provides a structured way to share updates, trends, policy changes, and training needs with faculty, staff, students, and leadership. This reduces misinformation and builds trust in the Title IX process.
3. It strengthens campus-wide engagement. When representatives from Student Affairs, Athletics, HR, Residence Life, Academic Affairs, Campus Safety, and others participate, Title IX becomes integrated into daily campus operations rather than siloed. This cross-functional approach is recommended by national experts.
4. It supports resource advocacy and staffing needs. Council helps identify gaps in staffing, training, and funding. They also reduce the burden on the coordinator to advocate alone for resources.
5. It builds continuity and institutional memory. Title IX roles experience high turnover. A committee preserves knowledge, maintains momentum, and ensures consistency even when personnel change.
6. It prepares the institution for complex incidents and regulatory changes. Council helps institutions stay ahead of new federal regulations, emerging trends, and complex cases by coordinating expertise across departments.
7. It reinforces a culture of equity and safety. A well-organized council helps embed Title IX principles into campus culture—aligning with broader DEI goals and ensuring that prevention, response, and education are ongoing
