2023 SVSU Regionals Sales Competition Employer sponsors had exclusive recruiting access to some of the most talented sales students in the region. Twelve students from Saginaw Valley State University and Northwood University participated in the event as competitors in two categories: Elevator Pitch and Role Play. Employers from seven regional firms served as judges for student elevator pitches during the job fair as well as the role-play event. Former SVSU and NU students participated as buyers and judges for the role play scenario.
The Role Plays were held in small conference rooms while judges watched virtually from the CCB Finance Lab. Judges were provided with a digital rubric that they could fill out during each role play. In between rounds, the judges were given the opportunity to provide all students with general feedback to allow the competitors to adjust their strategies for the next round of competition.
The Role Play scenarios were based on the training the student competitors received from the Milwaukee Bucks Inside Sales Team. For the first round, students met in-person with a prospect who had attended a single game in the past year. The ask was to get this individual (and any other decision-makers) to come to the Fiserv Forum for a behind-the-scenes tour of the arena followed by a review of some of the season ticket packages.
In the second round, students faced a B2B scenario with a face-to-face meeting with the media sales manager and account manager of a local media company. The ask was to get them to bring the decision-maker to come tour the suites at Fiserv Forum to go over season package options that could be used as an incentive for their advertising clients.
The Final round was a phone call with a single game attendee who is in a hurry to get off of the phone. The buyer had been given instructions to offer the objection that they needed to confer with their significant other before making any commitments.
