Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) Certificate Admission Requirements

» View detailed application requirements*

SVSU's online PMHNP Certificate program offers a rolling application period, allowing students to apply throughout the year. Applicants can opt to begin the program any semester. In the application, you will need to identify your previous institutions attended. You will also need to contact those institutions and request official copies of your transcripts to be sent to Saginaw Valley State University.

SVSU alumni do not need to request official transcripts as they will already be part of your student record.

Although there is no formal application deadline, we do encourage students to submit their application as early as possible to provide time for their requested transcripts from other institutions to reach us at SVSU.

To complete the application, you will need the following:

  1. Submitted online application
  2. An MSN or DNP from an accredited college or university
  3. Current APRN license from your state Board of Nursing
  4. Current APRN certificate from a national certifying body
  5. Résumé

Students who reside outside the state of Michigan should contact the appropriate Board of Nursing in their state of residency prior to beginning this program. SVSU cannot confirm whether the courses or program meets requirements for professional licensure in the student’s state of residence. Students currently cannot conduct clinical activities in Louisiana, Minnesota, New York and Oregon.

Students who did not complete the required equivalent graduate level coursework in Advanced Pathophysiology across the lifespan, Advanced Pharmacology across the lifespan, and Advanced Physical Assessment across the lifespan prior to admission may have additional courses and credits required to complete the program of study

*Note: Some requirements for application have been recently updated and are not reflected within the academic catalog. Please contact the Program Coordinator for more information.
