What is a Registered Student Organization (RSO)?

Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) offer SVSU students opportunities to connect, grow, and lead through involvement in groups focused on academics, culture, service, recreation, and more. Participation in RSOs can enhance academic success, increase a sense of belonging, and build career readiness skills. Students can explore events, connect with organization leaders, or even create their own, opening doors to experiences that enrich their college journey.

An RSO is a Registered Student Organization. RSOs are clubs that have diverse missions and purposes, including academic, social, recreational, political, faith-based, multicultural, and others. Saginaw Valley State University’s Office of Student Life supports RSOs through providing guidance and mentorship, event planning support, and policies and procedures.

We know that co-curricular involvement supports several key factors for students including academic performance, graduation and retention rates, student satisfaction, and student belonging. Plus, RSOs can have significant impact on career readiness and exploration.

One of the most common ways to join an RSO is to show up to a meeting. If you don’t want to attend an event right away, you can check out RSO groups on MySVSU to find contact information for the RSO’s president.

Any SVSU student can create a new RSO as long as they have at least 2 other students and an advisor that is a professional employee at SVSU. Students can register a new RSO here
