Dr. Grant honored with Grand Marshal of the Freedom Parade
At the Saginaw Juneteenth Celebration Dr. Grant was named Grand Marshal of the Freedom Parade and an honoree at the Saginaw Juneteenth Ball, which celebrated excellence in education. Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, is more than just a time for celebration; it is a significant moment in our history that marks the end of slavery in the United States. It’s a day to reflect on our progress and achievements toward liberation and equality.
Michigan State Police awards SVSU the Distinguished Partner Award
The Michigan State Police presented SVSU with a distinguished partner award during the SVSU Board of Control meeting held on Monday, June 17. The award was in appreciation of SVSU hosting the funeral service for Trooper Joel Popp on January 31.
Coop at the Dow Diamond

The 2024 CHL Memorial Cup
SVSU is honored to be a sponsor of the 2024 CHL Memorial Cup, was hosted by the Saginaw Spirit Hockey Club. During the opening parade, SVSU's marching band and the Student Veterans of America chapter were among the many SVSU volunteers who played an important role in welcoming the cup as it arrived in Saginaw. This event showcased the strong spirit of community and support at SVSU.

The Office of Community Affairs
The Community Affairs office teams' aim is to actively engage SVSU within the community, bolstering the economic development of the Great Lakes Bay Region while creating enriching opportunities for our faculty, staff, and students.
We conduct extensive research to identify key engagement opportunities in the Great Lakes Bay region and beyond, mapping out industries, organizations, events, and initiatives that align with SVSU's strategic priorities. We also actively participate in events organized by regional entities including, the Saginaw Chamber of Commerce, the Bay Area Chamber of Commerce, the Midland Business Association, and the Frankenmuth Chamber of Commerce. Fostering valuable connections and partnerships that contribute to the growth and prosperity of the local community.
