"Overboard"

The artworks in this show are Matthew Zivich’s most recent paintings with some drawings. The intention for these pieces is to creatively illustrate various images of historical events that have stayed in the artist’s mind for no apparent reason. The images are all appropriated from various sources, and that gives Professor Zivich a chance to change the imagery into more ambiguous settings with suggested meanings. Some images are popular and may eventually be recognized. Professor Zivich has been unabashedly influenced by Peter Saul, David Hockney, and Malcolm Morley, mostly because of their subjects and sardonic humor. Professor Zivich is a tenured faculty member teaching painting, drawing and sculpture in the SVSU Department of Art
