Reception/Art Dept. Welcome Back Party: September 6th, 4 - 6 pm
This exhibition features work by SVSU Lecturer of Art, Phillip Hanson. The work in this exhibition focuses on manipulating the basics of design and drawing while also addressing the impact of technology on artistic practice. He received his B.F.A. in Painting from Grand Valley State University and his M.F.A. in Painting from Ohio State University. This exhibition is supported in part by Erie Custom Signs, Saginaw, MI.

Hanson is the faculty advisor of the Art and Design Creative League, a newly formed RSO (registered student organization) created to provide a greater sense of community for SVSU Art Department students. Since 2016, the RSO has made trips to the Flint Institute of Arts, the Detroit Institute of Arts, constructed an ‘Art Fort’ in the Arbury lobby, and organized artist talks from professional artists outside of the Great Lakes Bay Region.
As an artist, Hanson creates work by using both physical and digital media. He is known for going back and forth between the two, depending on what he feels the work needs. Outside of his exhibition at the University Art Gallery, Hanson has recently shown at the Mott Community College Fine Arts Gallery, the Morey Family Gallery at Art Reach of Mid-Michigan, and the Ann Arbor Art Center. After his exhibition closes at the University Art Gallery, Hanson will jury the Gladwin Area Artist Guild’s annual exhibition.
