Charity Starre Glaza

Charity Starre Glaza. was born and raised in a small, close-knit farming community in the Thumb of Michigan.  Charity will graduate from SVSU with my BFA, Bachelor of Fine Arts, in ceramics.

Artist Statement:  "I have been studying ceramics for about 4 years now and am in love with the medium.  It really only took one instructor to help grow my curiosity for the medium of ceramics to a passion.  Sara Clark of SVSU’s Art Department has been a wonderful mentor to me through my journey at SVSU!  I would like to further my knowledge by attending graduate school in the future. I hope to share my passion for ceramics and assist others in learning to love the medium as well."

Eric McGregor

Eric is from from Bridgeport, Michigan.  He is pursuing a degree in Bachelor in Fine Arts with a focus in ceramics.

Artist Statement:  "My works focus on Stress and the Relief of stress through the use of recognizable forms with plants growing out that symbolizes the level of stress.  I don't intend to pursue a Master because teaching a class full of students is not for me.  I would like to eventually start my own business which combines art and food."

Jessica Smith

Jessica Smith was born in Los Angeles, California and grew up in Caro, Michigan.  She studied at Delta College and transferred to SVSU after achieving an Associate in Fine Arts, Art & Design.  She will have a Bachelor of Fine Arts, Painting and Drawing from Saginaw Valley State University.  Jessica plans to further her education by attending graduate school as well as traveling to gain knowledge.

Artist Statement: "I choose the medium of paint mainly because it is versatile. The designation of painting has evolved over time from very representational, classical applications portraying realistic subject matter to the role of abstraction and inclusiveness with many other media, which is why I am so drawn to it. Being able to manipulate a surface to convey a sense of space as well as the denial of it is what makes painting such a great way to convey the complexity of each event or idea I perceive."

"I've enjoyed my time at Saginaw Valley because of the great faculty and support of my peers.  Each of my instructors brought something unique to my educational experience and helped me discover my passion for fine art and academics.  It's apparent that everyone takes their role in the art department seriously yet they maintain their ability to be lighthearted and receptive to students.  This formula of high expectations and approachability is why so many fine artists and graphic designers from SVSU are able to find fulfilling careers after they graduate. I'm excited to join the alumni ranks and discover what opportunities await me on the other side!"
