Undecided Resources

FOCUS Assessment

FOCUS is one of the top three career planning systems in the United States according to the National Association of Colleges & Employers (NACE) and is currently used in over one thousand career service centers in community and state agencies, schools, colleges, universities, and technical institutes nationwide. FOCUS will help you broaden your career horizons and map out career and educational goals and plans.

This system is based on established career counseling principles. It provides you with a complete picture of your interests, values, personality, skills, and leisure activities using self-assessment questionnaires, interest inventories, and personality testing. After you have assessed your personal attributes, the system searches its career and occupational information database to help you identify and analyze occupations and career paths that match your personal characteristics.

FOCUS is a free tool for SVSU students and is a great resource for undecided students!

What can I do with a major in...

This resource is available courtesy of the University of Tennessee and is designed to be a brief overview of potential collegiate majors that lead to many career pathways. For each major that interests you, choose "Information" to find an outline of common career areas, typical employers, and strategies designed to maximize career opportunities. Please note that this information is not an all-inclusive list of career options per major.

Keep in mind that the information sheets and websites are representative of typical career paths associated with each major and not a comprehensive list.

You may want to explore information and websites from multiple majors to help you learn about a wide range of career opportunities.

Interested in learning what programs are offered at SVSU? The catalog is a great resource, as it provides you with all the classes needed for a specific major as well as a brief description of the major.
