SVSU offers a traditional and accelerated route to teacher certification in elementary and secondary education for individuals who already have a bachelor's degree or higher and want to obtain their standard teaching certificate to teach in Michigan. Admission to these programs is coordinated through the Office of Admissions & Certification in the College of Education.
If you are considering a career in teaching, we ask that you first attend a Teacher Certification Seminar to learn about our traditional and accelerated certification programs at SVSU and the requirements to become a certified teacher in Michigan. Discussion at the seminar will also touch on high demand positions within education and what the next steps are to begin your teacher preparation program at SVSU.
Sessions are held in Gilberston Hall, GA 114 (unless exceptions noted) on SVSU's main campus in Saginaw (campus map):
We ask that you RSVP at firstname.lastname@example.org to confirm your attendance. Please be sure to include the date you plan to attend, the name of the institution where you completed your highest degree, and a phone number where you can be reached during the day in the email. Your phone number is needed for notification in case a session is canceled due to illness or inclement weather.
For those who hold at least a bachelor's degree and would like to obtain a standard teaching certificate through SVSU's traditional route to teacher certification.
For students with a bachelor's degree or higher that would like to obtain their standard teaching certificate through SVSU's Accelerated Certification with Residency (ACR) Program.
