The business of special education is complex and extremely regulated, thus requiring schools to have administrators dedicated to the integrity of special education programs and services. Saginaw Valley State University is one of a few institutions in Michigan that provides state approved program approvals for Supervisor and Director of Special Education.
Our program is designed and staffed by practitioners recognized for their expertise in their specialized field. Our courses offer state-of-the-art training in a manner that minimizes the disruption of our students' professional and personal lives, and our courses are offered in a convenient location for those living in Mid-Michigan, the Thumb, and Southeast Michigan.
The Supervisor of Special Education requires 13 credit hours of coursework to receive state approval. Students seeking the Director of Special Education have the option to complete 30 credits for full approval in a non-degree capacity, or they can complete the Education Specialist Degree Program that would provide full approval and a Education Specialist Degree. Coursework is offered for students on the main campus and through our Regional Education Centers in Oakland and Macomb counties.
