Saginaw Valley State University closed out a strong 2025 fiscal year by raising more than $6 million. Donors to SVSU gave $6,758,247 which represents a 96% increase in giving from fiscal year 2024. The university’s fiscal year runs from July 1-June 30.
“Over the course of my first year at Saginaw Valley State University, it became evident what a special place this is,” Vice President of Development Brian Brunner said. “As I met with alumni and friends in the region and around the country, I heard stories of their belief in our university’s mission and the need make sure an SVSU education is accessible to all students.”
Over 2,000 gifts from 1,471 donors constituted the total, supporting a variety of priorities across campus from academic and athletic programs to capital initiatives.
The Scott L. Carmona College of Business, one of SVSU’s fastest growing colleges, was the beneficiary of a transformational investment from former SVSU Board of Control member and longtime SVSU supporter Robert “Bob” Vitito and his wife, Marianne “Bobbi” Vitito. Through a blended gift that provides for both the present and future of the college, the Vititos made a $1.25 million commitment. Their gift will grow the Vitito Global Leadership Institute, one of SVSU’s premier programs of distinction, and also enhance programming, promote excellence and provide support for special activities within the Carmona College of Business.
Student scholarships remained a strong driver of philanthropic support with more than $1.3 million of the funds raised going to student aid. Some of that aid will come from the newly established Nathan Weidner Memorial Scholarship, which honors Nathan’s memory and his commitment to helping others. Thanks to the generosity of the Nathan Weidner Foundation, 12 third-year students will receive a $4,000 scholarship during the current academic year.
The Marshall M. Fredericks Sculpture Museum received an estate gift from the late Carl and Christina Fredericks, longtime supporters of the museum. As Marshall’s son, Carl’s love of the arts and education was heavily influenced by his father. The Fredericks’ generous gift will help to ensure that the enduring legacy of Marshall Fredericks lives on, and it will help support both the preservation of his father’s collection and the day-to-day operations of the museum.
A final highlight of fiscal year 2025 was the record-breaking Oppor2nity Days! This two-day campaign raised $197,936.20 from 370 gifts from Cardinals across the country. This reflects a 53% increase in dollars from 2024’s highly successful Oppor2nity Days campaign.
