Saginaw Valley State University today held a ceremonial groundbreaking for four new housing buildings in the University Village complex. Construction is expected to be completed by August 2026.

The construction project will create apartment-style housing for a total of 96 additional residential students at a total cost of $12.3 million. The SVSU Board of Control approved the use of auxiliary fund reserves to pay for the project.

“SVSU has experienced unprecedented demand for student housing,” said Noel Hornbacher, SVSU vice president for Administration and Business Affairs. “Students value on-campus living for exceptional safety, amenities and a rich on-campus experience.”

SVSU has earned a national “best dorms” ranking among all public universities in the United States in a survey by Niche for six years.

Like other buildings in the University Village complex, each new structure will contain six townhouse style units with four private (single-bed) bedrooms.

The project architect is NORR. RC Hendrick is serving as construction manager overseeing the project.
