A standout faculty member from Saginaw Valley State University is deepening his professional commitment and connections through service on a national board. Kevin G. Lorentz II, assistant professor of political science, recently took a seat on the American Moot Court Association (AMCA) Board of Governors. He serves alongside 14 other board members from the academic and legal fields.
The AMCA, a nonprofit organization, is the United States’ largest intercollegiate moot court organization for undergraduate students. The Association’s purpose is to advance education about the legal profession, legal policy, the United States Constitution and the American judiciary.
Through organizing and managing national moot court competitions — both oral and written — AMCA provides practical opportunities for undergraduate college students to engage with case law, hone their skills in legal reasoning and application, and sharpen their ability to present legal arguments before a panel of judges.
The AMCA Board of Governors oversees corporate powers of the AMCA and manages the organizations affairs, including drafting and selecting case problems for competitions and establishing policies and procedures.
Lorentz joined SVSU’s faculty in 2021. His research focuses on American constitutional law, judicial politics and civic engagement, and his work has been published in several journals and edited volumes.
In addition to teaching, Lorentz serves as director of SVSU’s moot court program and as the faculty coordinator for Cardinals Vote, the university’s civic engagement and education initiative. He also advises the SVSU College Republicans and Pi Sigma Alpha, the national political science honor society. Lorentz also serves as president of the Michigan Political Science Association.
