SVSU welcomes students back to campus

Freshman class moves into top-ranked residence halls

move-in fall 2022

Saginaw Valley State University will welcome new students to its award-winning residence halls on Wednesday, August 24.

SVSU’s student housing is currently ranked No. 1 in the nation among public universities by the website Niche in its annual “best dorms” rankings of nearly 1,400 colleges and universities nationwide. The university’s student housing ranks 4th among 4-year public and private institutions.

As in years past, SVSU’s residence halls will be filled to capacity for the 2022-2023 academic year. About 70 percent of incoming freshmen have chosen to reside on campus, reflecting an increase of 100 more freshman students than last year.

Niche bases its college rankings on several factors, including student satisfaction survey responses, which account for 70% of the Niche score. Other factors include average housing cost, housing capacity and student housing crime rate, which each account for 10% of the score.
