Want to explore the thoughtfully designed world of a conceptualized cozy cat cafe? Want to see artwork of some of the ugliest animals you’ve ever laid eyes on? Well, this is the perfect art exhibition for you! SVSU Bachelor of Fine Art students Jess Inman and Jessica Cornford will be putting on a self-curated art show as the final step in their BFA process’.
Jess Inman focuses on exploring how visual design can shape not only what we see but also how we feel, interact, and connect within a space. This idea culminates in their cat cafe exhibition which explores blending comfort, community, and brand identity into a functional design for a cat cafe. In Jess Inman’s exhibition you can expect to see layouts of the cafe, brand identity exploration, merchandise, color schemes and typography, a diorama of the actual cat cafe, and much more. Their goal with this exhibition is to bridge the gap between digital innovation and human experience, encouraging curiosity and connection to the designs they’ve created
Jessica Cornford focuses on finding beauty in creatures that are often considered ugly or undesirable by our society. In their exhibition they explore a multitude of animal species ranging from mammals and amphibians to fish and insects. Their work is done in multiple mediums including oil paint, wood burning, and watercolor. The series concludes with a five-foot by four-foot painting which represents “true ugliness”. Their goal with this exhibition is for people to take a second look at how they treat animals they consider ugly or are creeped out by, as it is these animals that are often neglected.
A reception for the show will be held on December 4th from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, where visitors can meet the artists, discuss the artwork, and enjoy complimentary food and drinks! The SVSU Gallery is free to view and open to the public during regular gallery hours.
“Creature Features” is a great chance to support and celebrate the two graduating BFA students Jess Inman and Jessica Cornford; and an opportunity to take a look at the artwork they’ve been creating during their time at SVSU.
