The Ryder Center for Health & Physical Education offers SVSU students, faculty, staff and community members vast opportunities to improve their physical fitness utilizing state-of-the-art workout facilities. Throughout the year, the facilities and other multi-purpose rooms are host to area business/organizations to conduct meetings, conventions or expos and area high schools/high school athletic organizations to host large events/tournaments.
Students, faculty and staff can enjoy SVSU's 2-story fitness center offering elliptical machines, cycles, free weights, lifting machines, walking/running track, 3 multi-use basketball courts, locker rooms and a comfortable lounge area. Cardinal Fitness Courses are offered throughout the year from Zumba to Boot Camp to fit all fitness levels and interests. Ryder Center memberships are open to alumni and community members, as well as employee spouse/dependents.
A variety of educational and recreational events and services for students and staff. Individual and team sport leagues with Intramural & Club Sports, Cardinal Fitness group exercise, outdoor based adventures with Outside SVSU, and Personal training.
SVSU currently participates in NCAA Division II Collegiate Athletic programs, offering 19 varsity programs: softball, basketball, indoor track, outdoor track, soccer, volleyball, cross country, tennis, swimming & diving and golf for women; and baseball, basketball, indoor track, outdoor track, soccer, football, cross country, golf and swimming & diving for men.
The Gerstacker Aquatics Center Olympic-size pool is the host to many swim and diving competitions, yet is available to students, staff, faculty and the community for leisurely swimming, laps and numerous American Red Cross certified Learn to Swim programs.
