Learning Facilities

The Department of Modern Foreign Languages has a 24-position CALL (Computer Assisted Language Learning) lab on the second floor of Brown Hall in B203. The Lab is equipped with Sony/Sans Virtuoso Major and Soloist software. The Lab is open for the use of all language students during the hours specifically listed as "Open" on the Lab schedules. The schedule is posted on the Lab door and on this page below.

All 100 and 200 level foreign language classes are scheduled for a minimum of one hour a week in the Lab, and some upper division classes also meet in the Lab. During open hours students may sign in to work with a variety of foreign language programs in the Lab.

Software programs coordinated with the first year French, German, and Spanish textbooks are available for students to work with in the CALL Lab. There are also foreign language word processing programs, grammar, and verb drills, and a wide selection of foreign language CD-ROMs that cover culture and language in a variety of formats. The Lab has instructions for foreign language keyboards and software available as handouts.

  • Software: The Media Center maintains language software for Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Polish, and Spanish (and other languages by request).
  • Print Media: Dictionaries in French, German and Spanish and grammar reference books are available for students' use. There are also periodicals in French, German and Spanish.
