About SVSU

Saginaw Valley State University is one of fifteen autonomous state universities in Michigan. Founded in 1963 with 119 students, SVSU has grown quickly to its present size of just over 7,000 students. SVSU offers more than 90 undergraduate programs and 18 graduate programs and is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. In addition, discipline-specific accreditations are maintained in engineering, business, education, nursing, occupational therapy, athletic training, social work, medical lab science, chemistry, and music.

For much of its history, SVSU primarily served a four-county region: Saginaw, Midland, Bay, and Tuscola. However, in recent years, students have increasingly come from other parts of Michigan, other states, and other nations. For the last several years, more students have come from outside the primary service region

One reflection of the shifting student demographics is that on-campus housing has grown substantially over the last few years. SVSU offers space for over 2,300 students, resulting in a more vibrant campus life; many student and cultural activities take place on campus and are generally very well attended.
