The field of communication is dynamic and diverse. Some types of jobs pursued by communication majors include: advertising, marketing, copywriting, account executive, sales manager, media planner, media buyer, creative director, research, language arts coordinator, speech teacher, forensics/debate coach, drama director, college professor, broadcasting, film/tape librarian, community relations, unit manager, film editor, news director, news writer, actor, announcer, disc jockey, news anchor, casting director, producer, reporter, editor, publisher, publicity, development officer, press agent, and lobbyist.

As a communication major you have the opportunity to gain professional work experience by participating in an internship. Students can earn 3 college credits for COMM 494. Some internships include pay.

Qualifications:

  • Communication major or minor
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Demonstrated oral and written competence

Grading:

  • 50% Portfolio of internship experience
  • 30% Journal
  • 20% Sponsor Evaluations
