Saginaw Valley State University is committed to creating and maintaining an educational environment free from all forms of sexual misconduct. Consequently, SVSU strictly prohibits gender and sex-based harassment, dating/domestic violence, sexual assault, sexual exploitation, and stalking.  Intimidation, coercion, and violence of any kind will not be tolerated. It is the collective responsibility of all members of the SVSU community to foster a safe and secure campus environment.

SVSU’s Sexual Misconduct Policy applies to everyone - Any student, faculty or staff member, visitor, independent contractor or vendor on campus and involved in or witnessed an incident of sexual misconduct on the University campus as well as any off-campus conduct that affects the participation by a member of the SVSU community in a University activity is responsible to follow this policy.

All employees of the University are required to report sexual misconduct whenever they observe it or otherwise become aware of it.

Professional Counselors in the Student Counseling Center are considered “Confidential Employees” and do not have to report sexual misconduct that is disclosed to them when providing services.

What is Title IX?

Title IX of The Education Amendments of 1972 is a comprehensive federal law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in any federally funded education program or activity. The principal objective of Title IX is to avoid the use of federal money to support sex discrimination in education programs and to provide individual citizens effective protection against those practices.
